The thoughts, feelings, and ideas I express through any medium are not a representation of me. Rather, they are an explanation of what I am. My art is like a game of Jeopardy. It will you give you much information and answers, but you'll have to get to know me to know what the questions are.

First Attempt at Photography

Published in photography by Emilio Mejia | Comment (0)

Recently, I ventured for the first time into the medium of still photography.  I haven't posted here in a while, so I figured the results would be a good chance to contribute.  Tell me what you think.

I'm in

Published in nonfictionfilm by Emilio Mejia | Comment (0)

I posted a while back an essay that I had to turn in with my application to film school.  I got a bit of feedback and made some edits.  Well, I'm happy to let you all know that this past week I was notified by mail that I have been admitted to the ASU School of Film and Theatre.  Yay!  It's a new and not very prestigious program, but it's the best that I have.  Now I can get to do some serious filmmaking and I'll share in that with you.

Words Cannot Express

Published in sappoetryLife by Emilio Mejia | Comment (0)

I found something tucked away on my computer.  It's the only poem I have ever written in my entire life for reasons other than school.  It's pretty full of angst and I cringe thinking that I wrote this, but I still thought I'd share.

There are not enough words to say how much I have missed you.
The words probably do not exist to describe how I feel.
How much difference five years make, I could say.
Though it's only been a little over one, it surely feels like much longer ago.
It seems an eternity since I last felt your warmth, or saw your smile.

Resemblance

Published in Untagged  by Emilio Mejia | Comment (7)

While reading OOM founder Elad's latest entry today, I couldn't help but notice that he reminded me of someone.  That someone turns out to be the lead singer of one my favorite bands mewithoutYou.  His picture is below.  I think it's the beard...

Film Analysis: Pan's Labyrinth

Published in Reviewsfilm by Emilio Mejia | Comment (4)

I haven't been in the mood to review movies lately, but I realized I have a bunch of old essays and critical analysis papers about some of my favorite films, so I'll recycle them for your enjoyment.  The first is an analysis on El Laberinto del fauno , or Pan's Labyrinth, one of my favorite films of all time.  There's tons more I could say on the movie, but for the assignment I was restricted to the length below.  If you'd like to hear more of my thoughts or discuss the film further, leave me comments or drop me a message.

Why do I want to study film? (Updated)

Published in nonfictionLifefilm by Emilio Mejia | Comment (3)

This is an essay that I just finished writing. I need to turn it in with my application to get into film school, due Monday. But I wanted some feedback on it's content and quality, and I trust you folks the most with that type of thing. I guess I'm mostly hoping it doesn't sound cliche or too depressing or like I'm asking for pity. Let me know what you think.

Oh, and do it quickly I only have tomorrow to edit it. :)

UPDATE: I changed the ending a bit in case you already read it.

Film Updated

Published in filmfiction by Emilio Mejia | Comment (9)

Here is what I hope will be the final cut of my film. If anybody has ever edited a film, you know that by the time you're done, you never want to see that footage again. Without further ado, here is the alternate version of my film. I hope it is an improved version, and if it's not, I really don't care. I'll just have to get better with my future films. As of now, I don't have a title for it, but if you have a suggestion, please let me know and I'll consider it.

Studying Culture

Published in Random thoughtsphilosophyOur Open Micblog by Emilio Mejia | Comment (4)

Man, you folks really love to write. I can barely keep up with reading and commenting, I've given up the thought of keeping up with posting. It's okay, you all are wonderful writers so I don't mind reading more than writing.

Something has been causing me some frustration lately. This semester, I am taking a low level psychology class along with an upper division cultural studies class. Learning these two disciplines simultaneously has proven to be a bit confusing at times.

Desolado

Published in filmfiction by Emilio Mejia | Comment (6)

Here is the finished film to the screenplay I posted before. The only edit I would make in the future is when I find some music that fits the film that I can easily obtain the license for. As it stands, I can't submit this to any film festivals, etc. so if anybody knows of some suitable and easily licensable music, let me know.

Enjoy .

Lack of inspiration, or lack of confidence

Published in Random thoughtsblog by Emilio Mejia | Comment (4)

First of all, I just wanted to take a second and commend and congratulate every one that has grown this community in such a short amount of time. You all continually amaze me with your deep and wonderful words, pictures, sounds, thoughts, ideas, and everything else you seem to have an abundance of.

All Alone

Published in screenplayfilm by Emilio Mejia | Comment (4)

Here's a short screenplay I wrote last year. I produced this film and will post it here as soon as I can since I'm still editing it. I'm still not really sure what or if there's a message behind it, but I'll leave the discussion up to you.

Sorry for the external link, but I can't upload a file here that will maintain the formatting. So... enjoy.

A Humble Introduction

Published in blog by Emilio Mejia | Comment (4)

Well, I hope it's humble.  I'm never one to praise my own work, so the rest of you will have to do it for me if you feel so inclined.

A little about myself.  My name is Emilio.  I am a filmmaker.
