A Challenge!

Miriam Published in a challenge by Miriam Print

Hey you!  Yeah, you, reading this site but not commenting.

Obviously, this site does not make you pause.  So I have a challenge for you:

Post something here that does make you pause.   Pause in thought, confusion, epiphany, humor... whatever it is, just something that makes you pause.

You have 1 week.

(and, to be fair, I'll be doing it, too)

.....

I think you've broken my brain... which is a form of pausing, albeit one that I hadn't considered when writing the challenge.

As for the question... compositionally, sure. But with that subject matter... and the title... especially the title...

You broke my brain.

I've seen weirder crap in the past 2 weeks in my art classes that would blow your mime!

You jested I merely responded with my very much most recent brain twister of art.Yours question was an open ended challenge that can be a both a can of worms and a bouquet of beautiful flowers.

I chose both routes for an answer. Odd Nerdrum uses both a classically trained painting and compositioning style reminiscent of the great masters during the Renaissance but applies with it a questionable use of subject matter projection that in the general puritanical influenced society might find shocking, crass, and downright vulgar, but to others whom view life through a much more fractal prism based lens we see both the beautiful skill of the artist but the intended use of the kitsch and risque to jest at these particular societal influences. I myself reacted at first with the expected shock and disgust but with a well tuned eye I began to see the value of the images.

Your challenge has been quite fun! smilies/grin.gif

While perhaps this art is reminiscent of the renaissance, any era of artists would find this crass. There's never been a generation that would find this to lack vulgarity except perhaps our own.

"view life through a much more fractal prism based lens" Makes absolutely no sense. It's just a way to make viable the insanity of an un-prohibited era. Because fractals have nothing to do with prisms, and neither have anything to do with lenses. You perhaps mean to express "Those who view life with an uninhibited eye who view the delicate attention to both issue and design." If you meant what you said; please explain what exactly the fractal is in this event, what distortion has similarity to a prism, and where you can purchase quality lens cleaner.

However; the image is still lacking even the most minor subtlety and the imposition of its topic is insanity when compared to reality. It should truly show that the artist is disturbed and thinks so highly of themselves that they've lacked to perceive reality or community.

I used his words from an interview about his painting he make no sense I agree and that his subject matters displayed are both crass and poorly thought out his style and use of color is quite good.

fractal as in ever changing and simplicity of line that you find in nature, prism as in his use of colors and tones, and lenses as in how he sees the world hand his subject matter.
